Guest Spotlight: Serinda Swan

By Jessica Armstrong

Happy 2017 Glampers! We are kicking off a new year of guest spotlights with the amazing Serinda Swan.

This Christmas, the Canadian actress and her family wanted to "think outside the box" and experience a glamping getaway together to these stunning tents in British Columbia. We asked her to share some stories of her experience with us and can't wait to see where she goes next—hopefully bringing her adorable French Bulldog, Buddha, along for the journey again.

alt

Choose three adjectives to describe the glamping site you stayed at before your trip and another three words to describe it post-stay. How did your expectations measure up to reality?

Pre-trip: Tranquil, beautiful, and relaxing.
Post-trip: Perfection, wonder, and celebration.

Who did you go glamping with, and what was your favorite memory that you made together during the stay?

This year, my family decided to "think outside the box." Nothing would be given in boxes or bags, with bows or with ribbons; instead, we would give each other the gift of time with one another. We decided to wrap ourselves up instead, walk through the forest, tie scarves around our necks, and pull on hats as we explored the sea coast recounting the past year and telling stories. I think my favorite memory was playing crib with my family by the fire laughing and drinking wine.

alt

What was the best part about the accommodation? How does it compare to past places you’ve stayed?

The property. Waking up to that via every more was incredible and not like anywhere else I have stayed, as its so secluded and private.

Describe to us the area around the glamping site. What do you think the perfect time of year to stay here would be, and why?

Going in the winter was lovely, because you enjoyed the fire and hot soaker tubs, but in the summer, you would be out by the pool and kayaking so honestly I think any time of the year.

alt

Tell us one thing about your first glamping experience that surprised you and why.

It's just as luxurious, if not more, than staying in a hotel. The staff at the property were so helpful and created the perfect environment to relax and disappear but always there if you needed them.

If you could have invited a famous celebrity (dead or alive) over to your glamping site, who would it be, and what would you have done together?

I would ask to trade the "celebrity" for my grandmother, and we would have done the exact same things...laugh, hike, play crib, and sit by the fire.

alt

What is your ideal food item and beverage for a glamping trip, and why? If you have a special secret or recipe, please share with us—if you’re willing, of course!

Steaming hot coffee and the perfect breakfast consisting of eggs, toast, and copious amounts of avocado! Oh, and a hot Toddy!

Do you prefer a more active or more relaxing getaway? Which did you opt for at the glamping site, and what was the best related activity in the area?

Usually when I go glamping, it's to get away and relax. I like to be in nature and explore new places, and I found that at the resort, the area has some of the best hiking I have ever done (you can hike to waterfalls or secret ocean coves—it really is quite spectacular).

Fill in the end of the sentence: “This glamping site would be the perfect place for ____________________,” and tell us why!

My birthday! Just like Christmas, my birthday is a time I like to get all the people that are important to me together. I was born in July, so the weather would be incredible, and I know all my friends and family would love this property.

alt

Would you recommend glamping to family and friends? Do you see yourself going glamping again? Let us know why!

Of course! With glamping, you get the privacy and seclusion you are looking for, plus varying degrees of comfort you can choose from, so really, it's a perfect way to travel.

Follow the rest of Serinda's adventures on her social Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. You might even see her on another Glamping Hub trip very soon!

Guest Spotlight: Shayla

By Jackie Dreyer

Friend of the Glamping Hub family, Shayla, took the girls getaway of a lifetime to Costa Rica, staying at multiple glamping sites, such as these luxury suites and villas in Puntarenas.

alt

Choose three adjectives to describe the glamping site you stayed at before your trip and another three words to describe it post- stay. How did your expectations measure up to reality?

Before: Relaxing, nice, and private.
After: Luxury, charming, and romantic.

Who did you go glamping with, and what was your favorite memory that you made together during the stay?

My friend and I took a girls trip to Costa Rica, and Glamping Hub was the obvious choice. I have so many nice memories from our stay at this hotel, but a memory that I won’t forget is being outside on our private patio and enjoying the private pool off of our room.

The room opened up to a beautiful view of the Santa Teresa Beach. We felt as though we were in the middle of the jungle, as we listened to the howler monkeys and watched the sun set.

What was the best part about the accommodation? How does it compare to past places you’ve stayed?

The best part of the accommodation is the villa itself. The villa is nicely decorated and very well detailed from the fresh robes provided to the indoor/outdoor shower. A beautiful view can be seen from every angle of the room, which makes it seem like you are the only one on the property. We stayed at other places in Santa Teresa and to put it simply—none compare.

alt

Describe to us the area around the glamping site. What do you think the perfect time of year to stay here would be, and why?

The hotel is located in a tropical surfing town called Santa Teresa. The road leading to Santa Teresa is not paved and hard to get to, but once you arrive in the town, there is plenty to do. There is an array of restaurants and outdoor activities. The summer would be a nice time to go, in order to be able to enjoy the outdoor scenery and beach activities.

Tell us one thing about your first glamping experience that surprised you and why.

I was surprised how much privacy we had. Each villa is separated from the other villas and main lobby. Each independent villa allows guest to feel as though they are the only ones on the property.

alt

If you could have invited a famous celebrity (dead or alive) over to your glamping site, who would it be, and what would you have done together?

I would invite Jude Law to accompany me on this glamping adventure so we could explore the beautiful property together. We would travel down the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula on ATVs to Montezuma for a canopy tour and hike the waterfalls, and we would take surf lessons and watch the sunset on horses. At night, we would dine at the hotel's restaurant, and after dinner, we would go for a drink at the hotel bar near the main pool.

What is your ideal food item and beverage for a glamping trip, and why? If you have a special secret or recipe, please share with us—if you’re willing, of course!

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at the hotel. I enjoyed the Costa Rican diet, trying different dishes made by Chef Jose Luis—a master of the palate! We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant.

The chef cooked a beautiful three-course meal for dinner. For breakfast, we had pancakes and a typical Costa Rican rice and bean dish. This hotel offers an incredible service that is hard to match.

alt

Do you prefer a more active or more relaxing getaway? Which did you opt for at the glamping site, and what was the best related activity in the area?

I prefer a more relaxing getaway, and here, I didn’t need to worry about a thing. Guests are very relaxed from when they first arrive at the property and are handed a welcome drink to the end of their stay when a staff member is waiting to take their luggage to the taxi.

The delicious on-site restaurant really takes special care of their guests, as well. If you’re up for leaving the resort, the town of Santa Teresa has a lot of activities to offer, from surf lessons to canopy tours.

alt

Fill in the end of the sentence: “This glamping site would be the perfect place for ____________________,” and tell us why!

HONEYMOON. This property is both romantic and relaxing. Couples can come to relax without having to worry about a thing, because the resort staff is so helpful, and the villa itself has so many areas to kick back—whether it’s in the private pool, outdoor shower, or hammock.

The town offers nightlife, restaurants, and outdoor activities if you feel like leaving the property to explore the Nicoya coast.

Would you recommend glamping to family and friends? Do you see yourself going glamping again? Let us know why!

Traveling opens one’s mind to appreciate the uniqueness of different cultures, and glamping allows you to experience where you are staying differently than any other accommodation I have stayed at before.

alt

While staying at this villa property, I experienced Costa Rican culture while still having the comfort of a 5-star accommodation. After my great glamping experience in Costa Rica, I can’t wait to continue glamping in my home state of Arizona.

4 Reasons to Visit Sayalonga, Malaga, this Winter

By Jessica Armstrong

This past weekend, I packed my bags, rented a car, and set my sites for Sayalonga, Malaga, to visit these luxury rentals with views of the stunning Costa del Sol—a trip I have been looking forward to for quite some time.

alt

Why Sayalonga, you ask? A trip to this beautiful white town in the mountains of Southern Spain will not disappoint—especially when making this glamping site your home away from home. Here are a few reasons why for when planning your winter, spring, summer, or fall getaway.

alt

1. The Views of Costa del Sol

Waking up to a gorgeous view of the ocean, olive trees, and mountainside villas along the coast is how I would prefer to wake up every morning. Only a short 7 k.m. away from the coast, it is still hard to believe that I really enjoyed the best of both worlds, mountain and sea, right from the comfort of my glamping accommodation.

alt

2. Hiking Trails Everywhere You Turn

Being a very outdoorsy person, I love a good hike to explore the surrounding areas. Having woken up to hike through the hillside among the olive trees to the short drive to hike through the National Park alongside the beautiful town of Cómpeta, there was so much to do an explore. Glampers have the many options of renting bikes, motorcycles, ATVs, and more to trek around the natural landscape.

alt

alt

3. The Charming Breakfast at the Glamping Villa

Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so starting the day off with eggs, breads, cheeses and meats, fresh orange juice, and one (or two) cups of coffee was the exact fuel I needed for a day of exploration. I have to hand it to the fabulous hosts for spoiling us our whole visit!

alt

4. Only a Short Drive 45 km drive to Malaga

Having a few days to explore it all, we wanted to really take advantage of the surrounding areas, and with Malaga only a short 50-minute drive away from Sayalonga, we couldn't help but stop on the way.

I highly recommend visiting Malaga in the winter season to see the beautiful Christmas light shows and walk the streets filled with holiday decorations. The views from the Castillo de Gibralfaro cannot be beat, and the uphill hike to the top was well worth it.

alt

The experience of luxury meets nature in Southern Spain was truly unique and special. A visit to the Costa del Sol any time of the year would be sure to bring relaxation, adventure, and restoration to your life.

Guest Spotlight: Madison

By Jessica Armstrong

alt

This week, we're bringing you a guest spotlight featuring Madison, a winner of one of last year's Glamping Hub Giveaways! Read below as we interview her about her amazing stay in Spain with her sister:

Choose three adjectives to describe the glamping site you stayed at before your trip and another three words to describe it post- stay. How did your expectations measure up to reality?

When I first saw Beautifully Decorated Yurts in Spanish Countryside of Malaga on Glamping Hub, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It certainly looked luxurious, but my previous experiences camping made me suspicious as to just how comfortable outdoor living could be. If I had to choose three words to describe my expectations, they would be: attractive, intriguing, and different.

alt

While the glamping site certainly lived up to those characteristics, there was so much more to it than that. The yurt was exceptionally comfortable and everything was impressively well thought out, down to the last detail. Our hosts made us feel so welcome that it felt like a home from home. Post-stay, I would describe the site as cozy, charming, and idyllic.

alt

Who did you go glamping with, and what was your favorite memory that you made together during the stay?

I decided to go glamping with my sister, as we live in different cities and rarely get a chance to re-connect. Although we managed to do a lot of sightseeing during our stay, my favorite memory would have to be the first night, where we sat outside the yurt chatting and soaking in the scenery. We enjoyed a bottle of white wine together and sampled some locally produced meats and cheeses, all whilst watching the sun set over the rolling Spanish countryside.

What was the best part about the accommodation? How does it compare to past places you’ve stayed?

What I loved most about staying in a yurt, particularly compared with staying in a conventional hotel, was the fact that it was embedded in nature. It was a unique experience, where I felt totally catered for while still experiencing the kind of tranquility that is only truly possible in a rural setting. The shower room was a special favorite, as walking along the cobbled path from the yurt to the shower in my bathrobe and then gazing out of the window into the Spanish hills felt rather magical. Washing my hair will never feel so special again!

alt

Describe to us the area around the glamping site. What do you think the perfect time of year to stay here would be, and why?

These yurts are located about 20 minutes’ drive away from a town called Villanueva de Algaidas in a remote part of Andalucía, Spain. The glamping site itself is in an olive grove on a distinctly desert terrain, nestled deep within the mountains. Our hosts told us that the summers were particularly dry and hot, so I imagine the perfect time to stay would be during late summer and early autumn.
We went during mid-October and the weather was beautifully sunny, with cloudless blue skies and daytime temperatures regularly reaching over 20 °C. At night, the temperature dropped to the point where it wasn’t unbearably hot but was just warm enough to be comfortable.

Tell us one thing about your first glamping experience that surprised you and why.

I was genuinely surprised by how plush the experience was, particularly considering how isolated we were. It was the perfect marriage of what felt like a 5-star hotel and a peaceful camping site. The cuisine served at the Beautifully Decorated Yurts in Spanish Countryside of Malaga still makes my mouth water just thinking about it, and the yurt itself was unexpectedly comfy. The crystal clear pool was definitely the icing on the cake!

alt

If you could have invited a famous celebrity (dead or alive) over to your glamping site, who would it be, and what would you have done together?

During our stay at the glamping site, I was reading All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy and it struck me how similar the Spanish countryside seemed to the way he described Texas. Our hosts told us that there was a ranch nearby and visitors could book a tour on horseback through the mountains. I have to believe that horse-riding through the Spanish mountains with McCarthy would have been an unforgettable experience, if only to re-ignite his memory of a bygone age and give me an invaluable insight into the lifestyle he so elegantly described.

What is your ideal food item and beverage for a glamping trip, and why? If you have a special secret or recipe, please share with us—if you’re willing, of course!

It may sound desperately impractical, but I would personally choose Ibérico ham and a lovely glass of white wine. The lightness of the wine perfectly complements the fattiness of the ham. At the glamping site, rather than using ice cubes, they froze grapes to put in your wine. It was a charming touch that made the experience just that little bit pleasanter.

alt

Do you prefer a more active or more relaxing getaway? Which did you opt for at the glamping site, and what was the best related activity in the area?

We opted for a mix, enjoying a few relaxing days while dedicating a couple of days to more active pursuits. Our favorite activity was our hike around the Iznajar Reservoir. The lake itself was a deep turquoise and was surrounded by a sandy shore. It was completely deserted, so we had the makeshift beach all to ourselves for the day. We walked part of the way around the shore, swam in the lake, and bathed in the baking sun before devouring a sumptuous seafood lunch in a nearby restaurant.

Fill in the end of the sentence: “This glamping site would be the perfect place for ____________________,” and tell us why!

This Spanish yurt property is made up of two rooms, two yurts, and one small apartment. The two rooms sleep two people, while the yurts and the apartment can easily accommodate four. Personally I felt that the glamping site made the perfect escape for couples or friends looking to relax while still craving a unique experience. It was especially ideal for nature lovers, as the site is located near to a number of mountains, lakes, and national parks.

alt

Would you recommend glamping to family and friends? Do you see yourself going glamping again? Let us know why!

Glamping definitely surpassed my expectations and I couldn’t help but rave about my experience to my family and friends once I’d returned. I love being out in the countryside, and glamping was the ultimate way to indulge my passion for nature while still enjoying a relaxing getaway.

I’m already considering a second glamping trip next year, and would strongly recommend this property to anyone heading to Spain for their next holiday.

Guest Spotlight: Carolina + A Glamping Wedding

By Jackie Dreyer

Carolina, a friend of the Glamping Hub family, recently attended none other than a glamping wedding!

alt

Located in Bedoin, France, this stunning outdoor wedding took place in July 2016. The short and fast of this gorgeous event—because we'd rather let the photos do the talking!—is this:

  • All guests had a tent or a hotel close by, and breakfast was served outside in the morning before the wedding.

  • The ceremony was in a church and also at the town hall—and the view was amazing, as you'll soon see below.

  • There were around 200 guests at the wedding.

  • All five bathrooms were 100% eco-friendly.

  • There was a station for charging your phone and connecting to electricity.

  • They built the whole bar area on their own (including the letters!!).

  • The wedding gift for all of the guests was a lavender sachet with the guest's name on it.

Without further ado, get ready to ooh and aah over the ideal glamping wedding—and get some ideas for you own!
