Eco-Friendly Getaway in Texas Hill Country

By Katie Stearns

Editor’s note: Each month we’d like to highlight one of our incredible glamping sites from around the world. We’ll tell you all about it, what makes it special, and why you should stay there. And even if you don’t end up booking it, we hope you still get just a bit of inspiration for planning your next trip.

Is everyone else feeling what we are? The air is getting just a bit warmer. Days are beginning to stretch a bit further. Spring is just around the corner, and we’re not craving a getaway tucked away from the cold or cuddled close to the fire anymore. Instead, we’re thinking of something fresh, something rejuvenating. We’ve got our eyes on something eco-friendly.

To be more specific, we’re dreaming of these lovely eco-cabins in Texas Hill Country. Tucked away just outside of Austin, these stunning, eco-friendly cabins in Spicewood boast lake views, and they offer easy access to the outdoors. There are nearby wineries, markets, and a tomato happy hour to boot. Count us in.

ON-SITE DELIGHTS

Visit the hosts’ herb garden, and grab a few sprigs to add some extra punch of flavor to your dinner, or head out to what was once a floating cabin. Though it doesn’t float anymore due to drought, it’s still a nice, air-conditioned area where you’re welcome to relax and enjoy the wildlife. You’ll also have private access to the lake, where you can go for a swim, take a nice walk, or watch an incredible sunset. (prefer not introduce the property with/highlight the not-floating cabin. It’s not by any means the coolest part of the property ;) I would highlight the peaceful and quiet atmosphere, abundance of nature, watching the deer and other wildlife, seeing the stars at night. Maybe highlight more about the unique structures of the cabins ~ it feels like a wonderland.

Let yourself feel completely pampered while staying at these eco-friendly cabins, which come with all-natural products for you to use. Apart from this added bonus, you can also choose from all sorts of on-site activities like yoga, Thai massages, personal training, and private retreat packages.

The Romance Package: $295/couple for an organic breakfast for two, couples yoga, two Thai massages, and two wine tastings at Stone House Vineyard.

The Girls Weekend Package: $149/person for private group yoga, a Thai massage, and a group wine tasting at Stone House Vineyard.

My Personal Retreat Package: $195/person for two organic breakfasts, private yoga, and a Thai massage, & wine tasting at Stone House Vineyard.

WINE & FOOD LOVERS

If you’re hoping to keep busy and do things off the glamping site’s property, there are a handful of choices nearby. The hosts recommend Stone House Vineyard, which is actually a quick walk from the property. It’s a lovely place to escape to for something a bit out of the ordinary. Spicewood Vineyards is just a short drive from the property, as well. A bit of wine tasting in Texas Hill Country is a great way to explore the area and really get to know its products.

If food is more your thing, you simply can’t miss the nearby tomato happy hour and market. Located just off Highway 71, this unique market offers locally grown veggies, homemade bread, pies, salsa, and more. On Fridays, don’t miss happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., where you’ll get a tasty appetizer and wine.

Last but not least, there’s one more surprise for foodies out there. Starting June 1, this unique glamping property will have their very own private chef, who uses local, organic ingredients and will cater to all possible dietary needs.

OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS

Fall in love with the natural springs and hiking trails in the area. Few things are as rejuvenating and relaxing as enjoying the beautiful outdoors around you. The hosts web site can even provide you with a complete list of local parks in Travis County, and from there, you can plan your own adventures filled with swimming, hiking, picnicking, boating, scuba diving, and more.

If you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous, you can sign up for a Cypress Valley Canopy Tour, where you’ll actually zipline your way through the trees.

As the seasons continue to change, we can’t help but crave this sort of getaway. We’re ready to spend time outdoors, and we’re daydreaming of jumping into that lake. Peaceful sunrises, long hikes, freshly cooked, healthful meals throughout the day, and perhaps a wine tasting or tomato happy hour to mix things up a bit. Sounds like just the kind of getaway we’re looking for.
