Editor's note: Each month, we'd like to introduce you to one of our wonderful Glamping Hub hosts and what inspired them to create a glamping site. This month, we have Don, who manages this luxury expedition property with beautiful tents that can be set up wherever glampers would like in Sedona, Arizona, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona, as well as a unique dome in Monument Valley, Utah.

One of the luxury tent offerings of this property in Arizona.

1. When was the first time you heard the term glamping?

I wanted to offer my guests the experience of being surrounded by nature with comfortable luxurious accommodations. Glamping was a term that was a perfect fit for the company.

2. What inspired you to have your own glamping site?

The concept of bringing luxury camping to my guests was truly the foundation of the business, to allow for authenticity with a personal touch for guests visiting the southwest. Our campsites are mobile and can be set up in a variety of locations according to the guests custom itinerary.

3. If you could describe your property or the glamping experience you offer in three words, what would they be?

Amazing, spectacular, awe-inspiring.

4. What was your first glamping/camping experience?

Many years ago while camping/hiking with my wife, she brought wine and cheese with dried salami platter in her backpack. We enjoyed the luxury touch to our outback adventure along with a good laugh.

5. Why would you recommend people to go glamping?

Glamping allows you to experience nature while maintaining a level of comfort not usually found when camping.

6. What should people expect when they come to your glamping site?

Our goal is to exceed the guests' expectations for comfort and service while vacationing in a wilderness environment.

10. Anything else you’d like to add?

Our in-depth knowledge and special relationships with these areas, bring a level of service to our guests that goes above and beyond the usual visitor experience to these amazing locations.

Editor's note: Each month, we'd like to introduce you to one of our wonderful Glamping Hub hosts and what inspired them to create a glamping site. This month, we have Cyndi, who manages these pop-up glamping tent sites in Nova Scotia, including on Breton Island.

Bell tent glamping in Nova Scotia

A view from inside looking out at a bell tent in Nova Scotia.

1. When was the first time you heard the term glamping?

While living in Ireland, we often heard the term but associated it more with fancy English-style garden picnics and festival travel.

2. What inspired you to have your own glamping site?

We were inspired by our love of camping and the outdoors, but the desire to make it easier, more comfortable and less work. We started a blog called "East Coast Glampers" after moving to Nova Scotia in Canada, and it evolved from there.

3. If you could describe your property or the glamping experience you offer in three words, what would they be?

Bespoke, Maritime, Adventure.

4. What was your first glamping /camping experience?

Camping in our canvas bell tent over Thanksgiving weekend on Cape Breton Island in 2014.

5. Why would you recommend people to go glamping?

Slow travel. Less work for our guests means more time to enjoy the Maritime outdoors and Canada's ocean playground. There's nothing like sleeping under the stars in a canvas bell tent.

6. What should people expect when they come to your glamping site?

"Get lost, find beautiful" is our motto. We package unique locations at signature campgrounds around Nova Scotia to connect guests with the special, off-the-beaten-path locale that can often otherwise be missed when staying in a different type of accommodation. We are a luxury camping experience and provide everything for an authentic Maritime camping adventure.

7. What makes your property unique?

We are the first of our kind in Canada for glamping and pop-up glamping accommodation, and we specialize in a turn-key holiday adventure. Our bell tents are uniquely furnished with every guest in mind and with great attention to detail.

8. What’s your favorite part about owning a glamping property?

Providing our guests with a one-of-a-kind experience and lasting holiday memories. Travel is wonderful, and holiday time is precious. We manage every single booking with care to ensure they connect with Nova Scotia in a lasting and unique way.

9. What makes your property eco-friendly?

We practice slow travel with a low environmental impact. The cooking oils, coffee, and other food we provide are local, and we promote local on a sustainable scale. Our tents are natural canvas, and we're proud to utilize solar lighting where possible. Since our launch, we've been proud to partner with local barbecue rub suppliers, skin care producers, and other Farmer's Market vendors to offer guests a taste of some of the amazing locally-made Nova Scotia products.

Host Spotlight: Beth

By Jackie Dreyer

Editor's note: Each month, we'd like to introduce you to one of our wonderful Glamping Hub hosts and what inspired them to create a glamping site. This month, we have Beth, who manages this incredibly unique villa in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

An exterior shot at sunset of the villa.

1. When was the first time you heard the term glamping?

From your website!

2. What inspired you to have your own glamping site?

The Onion House is something like five-star luxury camping. With no outside walls (only screen and stained glass), you are fully immersed in the lush tropical environment. I had a hunch that travelers would delight in it as much as I do.

3. If you could describe your property or the glamping experience you offer in three words, what would they be?

Artistic, Joyful, Transformational.

The glamping property

4. What was your first glamping /camping experience?

When I spent the summer at our property when I was 10 years old.

5. Why would you recommend people to go glamping?

To expand your concept of the possible. The built environment has a profound effect on the psyche. As Winston Churchill said, "First we shape our buildings. Afterward, they shape us." Becoming attuned to the rhythms of an unusual setting can awaken and invigorate the senses.

6. What should people expect when they come to your glamping site?

An unforgettable experience of delight, with privacy to swim and immerse yourself in nature. One guest said, "I feel like a butterfly living under a leaf!" Guests have the place to themselves, with the freedom to swim 'au naturel,' sharing an eccentric slice of Hawaii's history.

A view from the pool.

The villa's pool, accompanied by the property's gorgeous views.

7. What makes your property unique?

The visual aesthetics are like nowhere else on earth. This wildly original structure, a landmark of organic architecture, was built for the McCormick Spice family, with a history of colorful characters. Guests' vacations provide funds to renovate and maintain this unique architectural legacy.

8. What’s your favorite part about owning a glamping property?

I love the impact that this unique place has had on so many people's lives. Some come to celebrate their marriage, anniversary, or a special birthday. Others give themselves a personal creative retreat. Families often say it is the best vacation they've ever had together.

9. What makes your property eco-friendly?

We try to reduce, reuse, and recycle, all while growing tropical fruits, some of which guests may have never experienced, like jaboticaba, guanabana, pomelo, and loquat. Organic architecture seeks to embody natural forms within the built environment—in this case, the shape of a sea shell.

The unique shower in the bathroom.

10. Anything else you’d like to add?

A private retreat in a work of art can have a profound transformative effect. One guest wrote, "There was my life BEFORE the Onion House, and my life AFTER the Onion House." Just as the unorthodox setting of the Onion House nourished my own artwork, it continues to spark creativity among our guests. The environment of 'no boundaries' without walls and square corners conveys a sense of the unexpected possibilities in life, and people tell me their lives have been transformed.
