Austin or Bust: Stay in Style Outside the City

By Jackie Dreyer

There are some of us who simply don't want the words "cold" and "vacation" to enter into the same sentence. Depending on where you're from and whether or not you're a winter sports fanatic, the last thing you want is to plan a trip where you must willingly submit yourself to below-freezing temperatures.

The hipster capital of the South is here to save the day—that's right, we're talking about Austin, Texas. In the middle of December, we're chanting, "Austin or Bust," and dying to mosey down to The Lone Star State for an atypical getaway bound to be the envy of all of our Instagram followers. And staying in style outside the city is easier than you think!

Glamping on the outskirts and in the nearby towns of Austin means a doubly as enviable trip, because you'll be getting all the best of Texan flora, fauna, and adrenaline-pumping activities, while being close enough to the big city to experience all its best dive bars, coffee shops, and live music.

Take on Austin with tranquility at a yoga retreat in one of these eco-friendly cabins in Spicewood. Create the perfect vacation balance between sightseeing and keeping busy vs. soul-cleaning yoga classes at this peaceful glamping getaway. We can't forget, however, that trips are, after all, about letting loose, having fun, and leaving your troubles at the door, so be sure to sneak off for a glass or two of red or white at the next-door vineyard.

Take long leisurely baths in the soaking tub, and curl up in front of a roaring fire in the fireplace, swapping favorite memories and a kiss here and there. You may be so cozy in this villa for two that you might never even make it to Austin, the perfect excuse for a second trip!

Tree houses are inarguably cool, so it's only fitting that this towering, multi-part tree house is located so close to Austin. We're imagining a girls' trip up in the trees, complete with a gratuitous photoshoot to find the perfect shot to frame and commemorate forever on each of your apartments' walls. Spend your days ziplining through the lush canopy and your nights soaking up all of Austin's best cuisine and culture.
